Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Learn Vietnamese mobile app

(the "App") handles information when you use it. By using the App you

agree to the practices described below. The App is published by an

individual developer; contact information is provided at the end of this

document.

The App is free, requires no account, and was designed to be

privacy-respecting by default.

1. Summary

  • No sign-in. You do not create an account, provide an email, a name,

    • or any personal identifier.

  • Data lives on your device. Lesson progress, bookmarks, streak, and

    • settings are stored locally in encrypted local storage (Hive). They

    never leave your device unless you explicitly export them.

  • Ads: the App shows banner ads served by Google AdMob, which may use your device's advertising ID. No data sale.
  • Microphone audio is processed on-device by your phone's built-in

    • speech recognition engine. The App does not record, upload, or retain

    voice clips.

  • Notifications are scheduled locally by your phone, not sent from a

    • remote server.

    2. What information is stored on your device

    The App stores the following on your device only:

    This data is not transmitted off your device by the App.

    3. Permissions the App requests

    The App may ask for the following device permissions. Each is optional;

    declining only disables the related feature.

  • Microphone — for pronunciation practice and the VLPT speaking

    • section. Audio is processed in real time by your phone's speech-to-text

    engine. The App does not save audio recordings, does not upload audio,

    and does not retain transcripts beyond the current screen.

  • Notifications — to deliver the daily learning reminder, streak

    • warning, and milestone celebrations you have enabled. Notifications

    are scheduled locally by your phone's operating system.

    4. Information collected by your device's operating system

    When you record audio for pronunciation practice, the audio is sent to

    your phone's built-in speech recognition service (Apple's

    Speech Recognition on iOS, Google's Speech Recognizer on Android). That

    service may handle audio according to its own privacy policy, which

    is governed by Apple or Google — not by us. We have no access to that

    audio.

    Similarly, text-to-speech playback is performed by your phone's

    built-in TTS engine.

    5. Third-party services

    The App uses Google AdMob to show banner ads. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID and IP address to serve and measure ads; see Google's Privacy Policy. You can reset or opt out of ad personalisation in your Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads). The App also uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to fix crashes and understand which features are useful. They collect app interactions, crash logs, diagnostics and a random installation ID, not your name or email. We will update this Privacy Policy and the "Last updated" date when this changes.

    6. Children

    The App is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any

    information from children. Because there is no account and no personal

    information collected, no special action is required.

    7. Your control over your data

  • View what's stored: open Profile → Offline data to see how many

    • progress entries, bookmarks, and VLPT attempts are stored.

  • Delete everything: tap Reset all progress in Profile →

    • Offline data. This removes lesson progress, bookmarks, and VLPT

    attempts from your device. Settings are preserved.

  • Uninstall the App: removing the App from your device deletes all

    • locally stored data, including settings.

    You do not need to email us to delete your data — it is fully under

    your control on your device.

    8. Medical disclaimer

    The App's "Medical" stage teaches Vietnamese phrases used in

    clinical and emergency contexts. These materials are for **language

    learning only and are not medical advice**. In an actual medical

    situation, contact a qualified healthcare professional or your local

    emergency services.

    9. Changes to this policy

    If this Privacy Policy changes, the new version will be bundled with

    the next App update and the "Last updated" date will change. For

    material changes (for example, adding analytics), we will note the

    change in the App's release notes.
